The 2016 Merchiston Careers Convention brought together representatives of over twenty employers covering a diverse range of careers areas. They were able to tell the members of Fifth Form, Lower Sixth, and Upper Sixth about the companies they represent, what their profession actually entails, the different routes into these careers, and what their next career steps could be. There was real variety evident in the routes into professions this year with apprenticeships, school leaver schemes, university scholarships, and graduate positions all touched upon by many of the exhibitors. Alongside all of this information on specific careers there was much advice given on the necessity of developing transferable skills, and being able to articulate the relevance of these, throughout time spent at school, university, and in work experience.

The exhibitors were complimentary about the way in which the boys engaged with the opportunity, and the boys were equally complimentary about the advice and guidance given by the exhibitors. We thank them all for taking the time out of their professional lives to contribute to this event.
