This morning, Leavers at Merchiston Castle School received their much-anticipated A Level results, and we are proud to celebrate another year of strong academic achievement from the Class of 2026.

This year, 42% of grades were awarded at A/A*, well above the national average of 28% and representing our highest proportion of top grades since the pandemic.

We are particularly proud of the breadth of achievement across this year’s cohort, with 25% of our A Level students achieving one or more A*. 

Overall, 80% of grades were awarded at A–C*, alongside a 100% pass rate.

At Merchiston, however, success is about more than headline statistics. We are equally proud of the boys whose results represent significant personal achievement and open the door to the next stage of their journey.

That breadth of achievement reflects the pride we take in guiding each pupil’s individual path. This year’s results include stories of ambition fulfilled, perseverance rewarded and personal bests achieved. These are the successes that truly define our boys and their time at Merchiston.

Their journeys reflect Merchiston’s commitment to the individual, including the flexibility to combine SQA and A Level qualifications to create the right pathway for each pupil. Both boys now move on to exciting futures, having discovered their passions and secured the opportunity to pursue them.

Results day is also an opportunity to recognise that achievement is not simply the product of teaching and learning. It is built through mentoring, encouragement and the personalised attention that can make a lasting difference to a young person’s confidence and ambitions.
