Chapel service led by prefects

7th February, 2016

Our second Whole School Service of the Lent Term, held on Sunday 7 February, was planned and led by the Senior Prefects. This tradition was started about twenty-five years ago, and it has been a real pleasure to see the boys taking increasing responsibility for the content and the presentation as the years have progressed – this year’s was no exception, and credit is due in no small way to Captain of School, Johnny, and his team of Senior Prefects.

This year’s theme was “The Nine Components of Happiness”, based on the Fruits of the Spirit, as highlighted in Galatians Chapter 5. Senior Prefects from every House in the School contributed: Johnny introduced and concluded, whilst Felix’s topic was love; Guy’s – Joy; Nathaniel’s – Peace; Angus’s – Patience; Thomas’s – Kindness; Andrew’s – Gentleness; Jamie’s – Goodness; Ruairidh’s – Faithfulness; and Benn’s was Self-control. The intercessions were led by Daniel, and the choir, featuring Alasdair (LVI) as soloist, made a strong contribution with its rendition of “The Water is Wide”. The hymns, chosen by the Senior Prefects, reflected perhaps what they enjoy singing rather than the theme of the service, but links were clear for those who chose to look for them!

Thanks go to Johnny and all the Senior Prefects for planning and presenting such a well-crafted and thought-provoking service. We now look forward to what next year’s team has to say to us all.
