Nursery in Design & Technology

Our Forest Nursery pupils visited our Design & Technology department in the Senior School this week. Under the watchful eyes of the Sixth Form boys and Mrs Chapman (Faculty Head of Technology & Expressive Arts), the pupils had the opportunity to help make some new wooden signs for the Forest. They also got to see a 3D printer as well as make some cool cardboard planes.

Chemistry Olympiad

Five Merchiston students took part in the Royal Society of Chemistry Olympiad and achieved a Bronze, Silver and Gold certificate between them.

STEM Nation Expo

Merchiston’s MerchiSTEM hosted a stall at Education Scotland’s STEM Nation Expo at Glasgow City Chambers following the successful submission of their STEM Nation Portfolio in the Summer Term 2023.

STEM learning at Merchiston is available to junior and senior pupils through the activity programme and compliments the ‘technology’ subjects of Science, Design Technology, Design Engineering (A Level), Electronics (GCSE) and Maths. In the Autumn Term, a dedicated MerchiSTEM Day, incorporating ‘Art’, celebrates and showcases learning with local primary and Prep schools.

In addition to the curricula and co-curricular activities, your son is also able to enter various competitions and take advantage of courses outside school including Arkwright Scholarships, EDT, CityZen, DigiInventors and CANSAT to name a few. Merchiston is currently the first independent school to have been awarded the Education Scotland's STEM Nation Award.
