Euge! Success in Latin Play Competition
23rd May, 2016
On Friday 20 May, 24 boys from II-IV Form took part in a Latin Play Competition at George Heriot’s School, competing against teams from Heriot’s and Fettes. The older boys’ play involved a bear (played by Hamish in a onesie) going wild at a religious celebration in Roman Britain.
The younger boys performed ‘Poppaea’, a play involving a sleepy old man, a flirtatious slave-girl and her boyfriend Grumio. The boys impressed the judges (Classics students from Edinburgh University) with their lively acting, inventive costumes, accurate pronunciation of Latin and effort in learning their lines. Nine teams competed in the Junior Play; many congratulations to our II Form team of Fedor, Patrick, Mackenzie, Hadrien and Calin, who were joint runners-up, and to another II Form team of Ollie, Max, Ori and Jack, who won!
Alongside the plays, the boys took part in a classical general knowledge quiz. Of the fifteen teams, our III Form team, ‘the Mafia’, scored the most points; congratulations to Freddie, Eric, Kenny and Archie.
