Nick Lieberman Biology Teacher, House parent of Laidlaw South and Master in Charge of Football

I joined Merchiston in 2015, having worked at Broughton High School. I have many roles across the school and enjoy seeing the boys flourish in each, whether academic, sport or pastorally in house. I work in a busy science department teaching Biology and, until recently, General Science to Pringle.

I am Master in Charge of Football and I thoroughly enjoy the inclusive atmosphere and competitive nature of Football at Merchiston and the SISFA cup competition.

I have been resident in Laidlaw House since 2015, working as Resident Tutor for a year and Assistant Housemaster for two years in Laidlaw North, leading to my appointment as Housemaster of Laidlaw South in 2018.

INTERESTS

I have a busy life both in school and in my free time. I love to spend time with my wife Jenny, our three daughters Aubrey, Margot and Marla and our labradoodle Storm. We enjoy days trips and time away exploring, playing and relaxing all together. My main passions are football, I am a fanatical yet regularly disappointed Hibernian fan, as well as running to keep fit and occasionally participating in 10K to half marathon distance races. I also enjoy cooking, reading and playing guitar.

GREATEST ACHIEVEMENTS

Continuing to grow the Football Program at Merchiston, and consistently achieving good results and victories against larger schools. The most notable being on our Football tour to Manchester in 2019 and winning both matches against Sedbergh and Manchester Grammar.

Funniest Moment

So many I cannot choose, interacting with the boys in Laidlaw South and travelling to Football fixtures are always enjoyable.

Inspiring Moment

Watching boys play their first ever competitive football match having worked and trained incredibly hard. Seeing their focus and enjoyment on the pitch is very inspiring.
