Politics

pupils and teacher in classroom

Politics is an A Level subject that is all about power: who has it, how do they get it and what do they do with it? You can choose it in the VI Form, and you learn about how the Politics of the UK works, alongside political ideologies, and developments in global politics.

You don’t have to be completely familiar with current affairs to do Politics, but if you like keeping up with the news then Politics is a subject you will enjoy. It will help you to understand why the world works in the way that it does, and its topics are so varied that in one lesson you can range from the powers of the British Prime Minister to the global rise of China.

Lots of our students go on to study something involving Politics at university. One of the most popular (and competitive) of such courses is International Relations: studying A Level Politics is the best possible preparation for that course, because there is a huge amount of subject overlap between them.
