David Johnston QC, MA, PhD, LLD, FRSE Advocate, Chairman of the Child Protection & Compliance Committee
David Johnston attended Daniel Stewart’s and Melville College and then the University of Cambridge, from which he holds the degrees of MA, PhD and LLD.
He was called to the Scottish Bar in 1992; between 1993 and 1999 he was Regius Professor of Civil Law at the University of Cambridge, after which he returned to legal practice. Since 2000 he has been an honorary professor in the University of Edinburgh Law School. He was appointed QC in 2005 and practises mainly in public and commercial law. In 2015 he was appointed a part-time commissioner of the Scottish Law Commission, the statutory body charged with promoting reform of the law of Scotland. In 2016 he was elected a fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
