Richard Nutton MB, BS, MD, FRCS Orthopaedic Surgeon, Former Parent, Education & Pastoral Committee
Richard was educated at Sedbergh School and went on to study Medicine at Newcastle University.
He joined the North East of England Surgical Training Programme (Orthopaedics and Trauma) in 1977 and then went on to be a Harkness Fellow in the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, USA. Richard then returned to take up a post as Lecturer at Newcastle University and became a Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons (England) and The Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh). Richard has now retired from his consultant post at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh but continues in private practice and is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Edinburgh University; and an Honorary Medical Advisor for the Scottish Rugby Union. He is married to Tessa and has 3 children, two of whom attended Merchiston. Richard plays and watches as much sport as possible and, particularly, rugby and cricket. He also plays golf, cycles, shoots and fishes when he is not trying to persuade things to grow in the garden!
