Half term rugby round-up

Half term rugby round-up

12th February, 2016

News(about us)RugbySixth Form

Unfortunately, we have seen very little rugby since Christmas, mainly due to the very poor weather conditions. As a Sports Department, we have been very creative and have ensured that not one single games session has been cancelled. We have used the sports hall, swimming pool, World of Soccer and the surrounding landscape to keep the boys busy and active.

We are all looking forward to the lighter evenings and warmer weather, when  we will be concentrating hard on upskilling the boys through the wonderful game of Sevens. This is a great opportunity for all players to further develop their skills set, whilst also having fun.

National Specialised Skill programme

Our district and national players still attend the weekly specialised skills clinics at Murrayfield and receive one-to-one coaching with our country’s top coaches.

Players involved:  Stafford, Aaron, Finlay, Lomond, Joshua, Kieran, Hamish, Tyler, Dean, Rufus and William.

We currently have eight boys from Merchiston involved in National Squads

Scotland Under 16

Kieran, Hamish, Tyler, Rufus and William.

The above players have been selected to attend the National U16 Performance Camp on 20/21 February at Loretto.

Scotland U18

Stafford, Angus and Aaron have been part of the Scotland U18 training Squad and have been involved in several training camps over the last two months.

Stafford and Aaron both played against the English Exiles, when Scotland was victorious with a 28-0 scoreline and Stafford scoring two tries.

BT Sport Academy Edinburgh, Stage 1, U15, Skills Camps – 15 and 16 February

We also have boys just starting their representative rugby career.  The boys below have been selected to attend the Edinburgh U15 Skills Camps.

Hamish, Jamie, Matthew, Rory, Will, Dean, William and Johnny.

We are very lucky to have so many Merchiston players involved in these representative groups.  This is down to the hard work and dedication of the boys and excellent coaches at Merchiston.

Good luck to all boys – Mr Deans & Mr Moffat
