International week 2017
14th November, 2017
The School’s annual International Week has just ended and it was definitely one to remember.
The School holds its International Week every year to celebrate the multi-culturalism that we are so lucky to have here in Merchiston – 108 overseas pupils from a total of 24 nations. Our dining hall was decorated with flags all around the walls, as well as some fact sheets which were placed on the tables so that pupils could learn about different countries. The most popular aspect amongst students and staff was the international menu, which included food from all around the world – a different nationality every day: Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East were all represented through a whole host of tasty dishes.
Each year group had its own activity during the week: Pringle had an “International Movie and Snacks Night’ on Tuesday; the Middle Years had a variety of sports competitions, such as table tennis, volleyball and table football tournaments, all internationally themed; and for the Sixth Form, an International Pub Quiz was held in the 6A club on Friday night. Moreover, there were two speakers at the Middle Years assembly from Austria and Germany and one speaker from Russia at the Sixth Form assembly, all of whom spoke about aspects of their countries, languages and cultures.
International Week 2017 was clearly a resounding success – roll on 2018!
