UVI pupil, Chris, has achieved something unique and quite remarkable on the Borders Sevens Circuit this year playing for Watsonians RFC. Chris has been too old to play school rugby this year; however, he has shown a dedicated and committed approach to his rugby club alongside his studies.

Last month, Chris was part of the Watsonians Senior squad, which was crowned ‘Kings of the Sevens’, a league competition comprised of the 10 most prestigious events on The Borders Sevens Circuit.

Chris said, “I’m delighted to have been able to play for the Watsonians 7’s Squad this year. I would like to thank coaches, Mr Deans, Mr Blair, Mr Noble and Mr Main who have been supportive during my time at Merchiston and helped me transition. I’m now looking forward to continuing my rugby career with Watsonians after I leave school”.

Director of Rugby, Roddy Deans, commented: “Since joining the school in Chalmers West, Chris has shown a passion and excellent understanding of the game. Most players will not win this number of tournaments in a lifetime, so to do this while at school displays the level of his achievement”.
