Merchiston Sixth Form

Laidlaw (Boarding) and Evans (Day)

Laidlaw and Evans

In the Sixth Form, the majority of the pupils are split between three houses, Laidlaw North and South and Evans House. Laidlaw North and Laidlaw South serve as the Boarding Houses for pupils in the Lower and Upper Sixth, whilst day pupils are accommodated in Evans House. Laidlaw is a modern and exceptionally well furnished boarding house, with all rooms being en-suite plus various common areas: six kitchens and an in-house laundry and gym. Evans also provides high quality facilities for its day students.

Pupils form strong attachments to their respective House, and all share a common purpose and goal, that of transition from school to university or the work place. Every member of the Sixth Form is afforded leadership opportunities, culminating in the sought after position of Prefect in the Upper Sixth. Personal and corporate responsibilities are key to success in the Sixth Form and we encourage boys to grasp every opportunity possible. Regardless of House or when the pupil entered Merchiston, the opportunities – academic, sporting, social, – are open to all.
