Day 3 in the Life of a Tennis Academy Pupil
Jacob, Lower VI Former and Co-Captain of Tennis, has travelled to Moldova this week for the Grade 2 ITF Junior World Ranking tennis event. He will be competing in matches all week in order to improve his ITF ranking. We will publish daily diary entries written by Mr Ashforth, Graduate Sports Assistant, who is accompanying Jacob on this trip.

Day 3
“Good things come to those who wait” – a fitting saying today after the frustrations from yesterday, unless, of course, you happen to be Jacob’s opponent. There was to be no waiting around today and, before we knew it, Jacob’s first round match was underway. Keen to make an impact from the start, Jacob got off to a flier with some pinpoint accurate serves and fast ferocious forehands. The final score was 6-1, 6-1: a very impressive start.
After a quick turnaround and Jacob and his doubles partner were back on court to play their first round match against the top seeds: a daunting challenge, but high on confidence, anything could happen. The match was close throughout and all four boys produced some stunning strokes. In the end, Jacob and his partner clinched it 6-4, 6-4, to knock the favourites out in the 1st round.
Jacob and I celebrated with a meal out at our new favourite restaurant in Chisinau.
