The Pirates of the Curry Bean
6th March, 2019
This week, the Golden Age of Piracy is arriving at Merchiston, courtesy of the Drama Department.
The call of the Golden Age of Piracy remains as enticing today as it ever has. Be it Captain Hook, Long John Silver, Jack Sparrow or Captain Pugwash, the lure of the sea remains filled with connotations of wild and romantic adventures.
On Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evenings, our I, II and III Form are performing The Pirates of the Curry Bean, by Craig Hawes. This rip-roaring show takes the cast from the docks of old London town, to the high seas and finally to the mystical island of Lumbago. All faithfully brought to life by Mrs Darling and Mr Burt’s set design.
Dr Steen, and her backstage team, have sourced every piratical prop and costume imaginable to help bring the story to life. While Mr Nicholls, and the technical crew, have worked wonders with the sound and lighting.
The 28 boys in the cast are excited to share what they have been working on and it promises to be an extremely entertaining show with zoomorphism, slapstick humour and jokes galore. Under the watchful eyes of Dr Mayoh and Ms West, the boys have been extremely busy over the past six months; practising their lines, learning the songs and stepping through their dance moves. and are now ready for what promises to be an electrifying performance.
So, come and set sail with us on this daring, dangerous, glorious production.
