Place2be (Parties to celebrate end of term)
5th April, 2018
On the last Wednesday of term, all the pupils from Balgreen and Longstone who were involved in the mentoring programme came to Merchiston to celebrate the end of term. It was a celebratory end to a potentially very sad event – their final session as Place2be mentees. The Merchiston boys organized an Easter egg hunt in the school grounds followed by an Easter egg decorating competition in the dining hall. Mrs Pearson, the Head Teacher from Longtsone wrote personally to thank the boys and a special thank you was also extended to the rugby group which offers core skills rugby training to nearly sixty pupils every Wednesday afternoon. Every pupil hand-made the Merchiston boys a thank you card and there were tears as the final session drew to a close.
Mrs Pearson writes:
Apologies that we were so busy with our review that I could not thank you personally for all that you, the boys and staff have done through your rugby coaching and mentoring. Again this year, the rugby has been a huge success and the highlight of the week for many of our children. I must also tell you how much the children have enjoyed the buddying and I was speaking with one of our P6 boys this week who is really sad that it has come to end as he has enjoyed it so much. I’ll look forward to working with you and your students again next year!
Ms Cunningham wishes to thank each and every LVI boy who was involved – be it at the Salvation Army foodbank; Davidson House retirement home; Braidburn School for pupils with additional support needs or as mentors or rugby trainers at Longstone and Balgreen. Your commitment and hard work was appreciated by every person you helped and worked with. A special thank you to Owain, the team leader of the rugby, to Brian, who signed up for a second year as a mentor and to Cameron and Rory, who did so much to help with the party organisation. Finally, thank you to those marvellous people in the Catering Department for hand making over fifty chocolate eggs and going above and beyond to the make the party so special.
