Royal Scottish National Orchestra Trip
26th March, 2019
On Friday 22 March, a small group of VI Form pupils went to a concert played by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra at the Usher Hall. The programme consisted of two well known pieces of Russian music, Prokofiev’s Fifth Symphony and Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. However, we also heard the world premiere of a new piece by a Japanese-American composer about the treatment of Japanese-Americans during the Second World War. The Orchestra was conducted by their Music Director, Thomas Søndergård, and they played the programme that they were about to take with them on their tour of the west coast of the USA.
The visit was part of this term’s Arts Programme, a termly programme of events where boys can attend some of the huge range of cultural events that Edinburgh has to offer.
