Personal, Social & Health Education
As your son grows emotionally he will, inevitably, have to confront many important and difficult issues. That is why we run a PHSE programme appropriate to each year group within the curriculum.
It is an extensive and wide-ranging programme covering themes such as:
Themes | |
---|---|
Mind MOT | Hygiene for health |
The media and body image | Attitude |
Speak up! | Resilience |
Bullying awareness | Peer pressure |
Risk-taking behaviour | Benefits of a balanced diet |
Internet safety | Screen time |
The programme has an emphasis on mindfulness, and underlines the importance of sharing any concerns with friends and pupil mentors. It is delivered through PSHE classes, Religious Studies lessons, House seminars, assemblies, and co-curricular talks whereby outside speakers share their expertise. For example, an international rugby player recently spoke about his own struggles with mental health and shared strategies he had found helpful in overcoming his challenges.
Future plans include a whole school focus on promoting children and young people’s rights as contained in the UN Convention on the rights of the child. This will better help your son to understand the special care and protection he needs and is entitled to.
We hold the bronze award for rights respecting schools and working towards gaining silver and gold.
