In the Sixth Form, your son will be in one of three houses, Laidlaw North and South if he is a boarder, and Evans House if he is a day pupil
Laidlaw is a modern and exceptionally well furnished boarding house. All rooms are en-suite, there are various common areas including 6 kitchens, an in-house laundry and gym. The facilities in Evans are of a similarly high quality.
Your son will be afforded leadership opportunities in the Sixth Form, culminating in the sought after position of Prefect in the Upper Sixth. Personal and corporate responsibilities are key to success in the Sixth Form and we will encourage your son to grasp every opportunity possible. Regardless of House or when your son joined Merchiston, the opportunities – academic, sporting, social, – are open to all.
Academic progress will be the most important part of the Sixth Form years and so your son will meet with the Academic Leadership Team before the start of term to allow individual academic programs to be confirmed in time for the start of the new academic year.
The Sixth Form may seem daunting for your son at the outset, but it will also be exciting and full of opportunities. It is important that your son leaves us ready and prepared for life beyond school; if together we achieve this then his time in the Sixth Form will have been a success.
