Middle Years

During this stage, students benefit from a broad and balanced curriculum, typically leading to GCSE or equivalent qualifications. Teaching is designed to develop strong subject knowledge alongside essential skills such as organisation, independent learning and critical thinking.

Small class sizes allow for personalised teaching, ensuring that each student is both supported and appropriately challenged. Progress is closely monitored, with guidance provided at every stage to help students build confidence and achieve their full potential.

All students in the Middle Years, whether day or boarding, are members of either Chalmers East or Chalmers West. These houses are central to school life, providing a strong sense of belonging and continuity.

Each house is led by a dedicated team who oversee both academic progress and pastoral wellbeing. This structure ensures that every student is known as an individual, with consistent support and encouragement across all aspects of school life.

As students progress through the Middle Years, increasing emphasis is placed on developing effective study habits, exam technique and a clear sense of direction.

In Fourth Form, students are supported in making informed GCSE subject choices, with guidance from tutors, subject teachers and senior staff. By Fifth Form, they are well prepared for public examinations and ready to take the next step into Sixth Form study.

Throughout this stage, students are encouraged to engage fully with the wider life of the school, developing confidence, resilience and a strong sense of purpose.
