Athletics is one of the three major sports. Whilst the School fixtures take place in the Summer Term, the boys are entered into the Scottish Schools Indoor Championships at Kelvinhall in the Lent Term. In the Summer Term, athletics is compulsory for all boys up to and including IV Form. Regular school fixtures take place in the summer against other schools and the team also competes in the Edinburgh Schools Championships and in the Scottish Schools Championships at Grangemouth. The School Athletics season is always completed with The Games which is held on the penultimate Friday of the Summer Term and is usually celebrated in the evening at the annual Celebration of Sport Dinner.
As with all the other sports, if a boy excels in his chosen track or field event, he is supported in his training programme, and in recent years the School has boasted Scottish and British Champions at Under 17 level.
