Course & Facilities

Golf News

Merchiston’s Golf Academy is based at the beautiful and challenging par 70, 18-hole Kings Acre Golf Course, just a few miles away from the School.

It provides easy access to practice and coaching facilities and ensures that your son’s time is well spent both at School and on the golf course.

Junior Course

In a perfect world, young golfers seeking to learn the basics would have their own spot away from the adults where they could play in peace. That’s exactly what Kings Acre has: a special four-hole mini course with teeing areas, contoured greens and defined bunkers just for junior players.

The Junior area is completely safe, very accessible and provides a great introduction to the game of golf; you can watch your son from the comfort of the clubhouse while he enjoys his very own course.

The Short Game Area

The short game is one of the most important aspects of golf, and Kings Acre has a first-class short game area where players of every standard can hone their skills and technique.

Widely used and highly regarded, the short game area is reputedly the best of its kind in Scotland. It covers around six acres and allows large groups to work on their game in a safe and comfortable environment. There are two USGA specification target greens surrounded by numerous bunkers, which means your son has every possible opportunity to test out and develop his short game.

Tuition Studios

The tuition studios offer real attention to detail and leading edge technology, all designed to pinpoint the way your son can start reducing his handicap.

There are four carefully positioned cameras in each bay to help us monitor and analyse your son’s action. Backed by the knowledge, expertise and wise advice of our instructors, your son will understand more about his golf swing and how to make it even more effective

The Range

Few driving ranges rival the set-up at Kings Acre. The emphasis is on presenting your son with real-life golf situations rather than the chance to thump ball after ball into the far distance.

When your son enters one of our 30 spacious covered bays he can immediately visualise the type of shots he faces every time he plays. Set out like a regular course, it has:

  • 18 holes
  • Three real water hazards
  • Large undulating target greens
  • Greens surrounded by bunkers
  • Accurate, laser-measured targets

It is specially designed to improve your son’s golf game in a refreshing and constructive way, and to have a real pay-off the next time he tees up on the course.
