Cricket

Cricket begins in the Junior years with Kwik Cricket, introducing pupils to the game in a fun, inclusive and skills-based environment before progressing to a combination of soft-ball and hard-ball cricket as they move through the school. From U13 to U18, pupils benefit from a full fixture programme, with both A and B teams competing regularly throughout the Summer Term against leading schools across Scotland and beyond.

Our commitment to cricket extends well beyond the summer season. Following the October half-term break, pupils have access to a structured winter training programme running through to the end of the Spring Term, combining technical coaching, tactical development and athletic conditioning.

At senior level, Merchiston teams compete in some of Scotland’s leading school competitions, including the Scottish Schools T20 Cup, where the School has enjoyed consistent success in recent years. International and overseas tours also form an important part of the programme, with senior teams regularly travelling both within the UK and abroad to broaden experience, strengthen team culture and compete at a high level.

Merchiston has a proud tradition of developing cricketers who go on to represent their region, their country and the professional game. Current pupils continue to earn selection for regional and national pathways, while former Merchistonians have progressed to represent Scotland national cricket team and professional county sides in the UK.

Whether playing for enjoyment, team spirit or elite performance, cricket at Merchiston offers pupils the coaching, competition and opportunities to reach their potential.
