Diane Boys Data Manager

I joined Merchiston in November 2017 as Data Manager.

I have worked on IT projects for most of my career and I really see them as change projects with an element of information technology included. At Merchiston, I manage the School's database, which involves me reviewing how others use and manipulate our data, in an attempt to help improve processes.

The privilege of walking up that driveway every morning is a splendid way to start each day.

I love working here, for me, a place is all about the people: all the staff are very friendly and helpful and I find the pupils here to be so polite and gentlemanly. I still get a kick out of the way the boys always hold the door open for me and address me as Ma'am. My office has a window looking in to one of our IT classrooms, and I enjoy looking through the glass at the pupils as they learn how to make technology work for them (and trying not distract them by avoiding eye contact with pupils or teachers whenever I can!).

INTERESTS

I have a very active social life, with a season tickets to the Lyceum Theatre and Play Pie Pint at the Traverse theatre as well as being a Close Friend of the Edinburgh Fringe.

As a keen photographer, I love to travel and there remains only one continent I am yet to visit - but the penguins of Antarctica will be getting a visit from me one day, I am sure!

I am a keen swimmer and also could not manage without my weekly Pilates class.

GREATEST ACHIEVEMENTS

Certainly my greatest achievement at Merchiston has been the delivery of the new Website and Parent Portal which were both delivered for the start of the 2019-20 Academic Year. The External Relations Manager and I jointly managed the project, and we have had great feedback from parents telling us how much easier they are finding the information they need about their son's time here at School. Hopefully, this will be just the start of things, we expect to continually evolve both the Website and the Portal, watch this space!
