Kirsty nicholls Marketing Manager
I am passionate about marketing the opportunities our beautiful school offers and my particular interest is in digital media.
I trained as a Broadcast Journalist and became an investigative producer with ITV and later the BBC, working in both current affairs and news. In 2014 I became a mum, and embarked on an exciting new career in digital and social media with a particular focus on families. First I took on the role of Editor of the brilliant Edinburgh for Under Fives, a guidebook and website for families in Edinburgh. I went on to develop and produce strategic campaigns for brands across the UK, for which I was shortlisted in the Business Women Scotland Awards. I then moved into the third sector, heading up the marketing, digital and research for national charity Fathers Network Scotland, for whom I am now on the Board of Trustees.
I am passionate about empowering dads as caregivers to improve the lives of children and families and in particular, I am fascinated by the way that digital media can be used by services to support new dads' mental health. I am currently undertaking a PhD in this field at Edinburgh Napier University.
My favourite thing to do is to spend as much time as possible with my two young sons and husband. I am an animal lover and we have lots of pets, including our cat Cooper, dog Luna and tortoise Pip.
I love watching documentaries, reading, yoga, walking with my Labrador and drinking coffee (usually while listening to a true crime podcast).
I love making my children laugh and I feel a sense of achievement when I know they are feeling happy! My greatest professional achievement is receiving feedback from current and prospective Merchiston parents that I have ensured they feel valued and welcome members of our community, and that they are excited about the opportunities we can offer their families.
