Darren George Biology Teacher and Head of Outdoor Education (until Summer 2019)
I came to the School from Australia, having been the manager of an outdoor centre there. Previously, I was a Science teacher in Bristol and North Somerset. I think the readiness of the staff and boys to dig in and give so much is what makes Merchiston special.
I was the Head of Outdoor Education for ten years at Merchiston, passing on the baton in June 2019. I loved providing mountain biking, rock climbing, mountaineering, canoeing and the Duke of Edinburgh award for the boys. I enjoyed so many special memories with the boys doing these activities and loved to see their development and competence grow as they progress and engage with the outdoor programme on offer.
I love the support and flexibility of the School. If you have a sporting passion, and are prepared to invest in that with the students, you will be fully supported by the School.
