Fernando Calvo Martin Spanish Teacher and Resident Tutor in Chalmers West
I have been a teacher of Spanish at Merchiston since 2016 and resident tutor in Chalmers West since 2017. I am also involved in football activities within the co-curricular sports programme.
I joined Merchiston after two years of teaching in another independent day school in Edinburgh. Adapting to the pace of a boarding school has definitely been an exciting and a transformational experience.
For me, what makes Merchiston special is the staff that live and work in the school. They are all very professional and their best quality is that they will support you whenever you need it.
Living on site is also another great experience at Merchiston. We spend a lot of time in the school and, therefore, everyone tries their best to make it a great place for the boys to live and learn.

Rock climbing: I love the feeling of the rock
Playing strategy board games: I enjoy very much playing face to face with friends the new generation of board games
