Hannah Williams Head of Biology and Skills Coordinator
I joined Merchiston as a probationer in 2015 and have now been here for six years. Four years go I became Skills Coordinator, responsible for developing, monitoring and tracking skills development throughout the school to prepare boys for life, learning and work.
In 2018, I became Head of Biology in a department of three other Biology teachers and the Biology technician. As well as developing our courses from III Form to UVI, teaching the Edexcel IGCSE and A level Biology B courses, we look after a range of animals in the department from stick insects and giant African snails to corn snakes and a chameleon. We also have an outdoor classroom and a greenhouse that we use for growing our own vegetables, sampling organisms and a space for outside study.

I help to coach squash at Merchiston and like to play in my own time
I like to keep fit and go to the gym and a Barre class with some of the other staff
I like to find new walks around Edinburgh fo my dog, Charlie.
I have taken a group of boys on four ski trips to Europe- seeing them in a new setting and having hot chocolate with them up in the mountains and seeing different year groups interacting and connecting in a shared interest always inspires me.
