Kate Anderson Teacher of English
I was born and raised in the United States and completed both my BA and MA there. In 2010, I moved to the UK to begin my PhD in Literature at the University of East Anglia in Norwich. I also worked as a librarian and scholar in the American Memorial Library there. My area of expertise is literary modernism with a particular focus on intersections of the arts during that period.
Upon finishing my PhD, I moved to London and joined the inaugural cohort of the Researchers in Schools programme, which recruits and trains doctoral students interested in teaching secondary school. I later moved to beautiful Bath and taught for several years at a large school in Somerset.
My husband, Tom, is a film editor working here in Edinburgh. We have a 2-year-old daughter, Nora, who we think is gradually developing a hint of a Scottish accent!
In my school days and at university, I was deeply involved in music and drama. I am a keen cook and baker, having worked in the food industry in Chicago prior to my move to the UK.
As you might expect from an English teacher, I read a lot. As you might NOT expect from an American, I am a big football fan ... and I never understood the appeal of the American version.
I really enjoy exploring my new surroundings here in Edinburgh.
