Richard Lilley Teacher of Biology, Resident Tutor Rogerson
I joined Merchiston as a Teacher of Biology in 2018 from Musselburgh Grammar School in East Lothian.
I am the Resident Tutor in Rogerson House and am involved with both the coaching of Rugby and Athletics. I love the opportunities that students are offered here, and the focus on education in the broadest sense, not just in the classroom. Within the science department there is a real focus for ‘hands on’ learning which is complemented by plenty of opportunity to work in the Outdoor Classroom.
I am passionate about education, particularly marine science communication and outdoor learning. I run a marine conservation charity called Project Seagrass which is working globally to conserve and restore seagrass meadows. I am a qualified PADI and BSAC scuba-diving instructor and recreational free diver.
I guess my greatest achievement to date is how well I have settled in to school life and how welcome everyone has made me feel here. It’s a busy school, with lots going on, but there’s always a friendly face happy to help out the “newbie”, that’s what makes it Merchiston!
