Roddy DeansDirector of Rugby
I feel extremely lucky and privileged to be the Director of Rugby at Merchiston with its deep history, tradition and culture attached to the game of Rugby. I enjoy coming to work every day as the boys simply love their Rugby. Rugby has given me many positives throughout my life and I relish the challenge for Rugby to help shape our boy’s futures.
My role is to ensure all boys enjoy their Rugby and to provide them with a progressive pathway for them to develop individually and collectively through their school journey.
The real bonus of our game is having the ability to build lifelong friendships and create life lessons through our game which is invaluable experience for all our boys.
Our boys all buy into our SOLIDCASTLE philosophy and helps develop them into a well-rounded, polite, balanced and responsible pupil who can then act as positive role models for our younger generation.
We have many boys playing professional Rugby across the Country, for me it’s not about that. Our school is special as we have a very strong culture and inclusive environment being a small school which allows every boy to develop. It is all about the boys experiencing a well-balanced education which also allows them the opportunity to experience the positive benefits Sport can have on your life.
I love to go Snow Boarding with friends & family. Whistler being my favourite location.
