Rory mccann Director of Sport, Head of Cricket, Teacher of PE

Having joined the school in 2012, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the school. My first role at the school was Director of Sport in the Junior School. This role allowed me to  develop  close relationships with boys and parents. Some of these boys have been recent leavers and it has been lovely to see their full Merchiston journey.

Alongside, teaching GCSE and core PE, I coach rugby and cricket. I have been the C1 coach for four years, producing two unbeaten seasons. I am Head of Cricket and 1XI coach at the school, I am responsible for the development of all our young cricketers. As Director of Sport, I am lucky enough to oversee the all of our 20 sports at the school, searching to continually provide the balance between participation and success. This school has a very proud history of sport and it is an honour to contribute towards this aspect of the co-curricular life in the school.

My wife and I moved onsite in 2012. Since then we have been lucky enough to have two beautiful boys, Flynn and Teddy. They both love running around their ‘back garden’, playing football, cycling and playing with the other children onsite. This sense of community in the school is something which we have thoroughly enjoyed over the years and we know our boys will also flourish here.

I still play for Carlton Cricket Club and MCC.
