Tennis with the LTA in La Manga
20th May, 2016
Jacob, and Tennis Academy Head Coach David Brewer, were lucky enough to be invited to an LTA training camp in La Manga (an hour’s drive from Malaga) earlier this term. It was an opportunity for 12 of the best boys within the UK between the ages of 14-16 and their individual coaches to get together and train abroad on the clay.
Every day consisted of a 7am wake up and breakfast, followed by the shuttle down to the courts to do an active warm up with the Head fitness instructor from the LTA, Aaron Peck. He took the boys through their paces with skipping, core work, lunges, injury reduction and on court movement patterns. After that it was on to the morning tennis session which would consist of different drills for two and a half hours, then back to the apartments for some lunch, a quick shower, and back to the tennis to play matches from 2-4. After the matches finished, Aaron would take the boys for a rest and recovery session either in the pool or in the gym. At dinner the coaches would decide who got player of the day—which Jacob received on the Tuesday!
It was great to be selected and Jacob’s efforts and abilities did not go unnoticed. He has also been invited to be part of the Brodie’s Tennis Invitational event which is taking place at Gleneagles on the 10th and 11th of June. Jacob is one of only four Scottish tennis players to be selected to play in an exhibition match alongside Tim Henman, Greg Rusedski, Cedric Pioline and Thomas Enqvist: a fantastic opportunity to be playing with some tennis greats.
