Theo in SISFA vs ISFA Fixture
10th May, 2017
Theo has been a fantastic player for the football 1st XI this season and has more than merited his selection in the SISFA (Scottish Independent Schools Football Association) select squads to play against different Scottish regions, Universities and National selection sides.
Over the weekend of 29 April, Theo was selected in the SISFA select squad to play against the England ISFA (Independent Schools Football Association) select: this is a traditional and very important fixture in the calendar. The SISFA squad travelled to Altrincham and enjoyed a tour of Manchester City’s Etihad stadium. Following the stadium tour, the squad had the opportunity to train and play at Bury FC’s Carrington training ground. This is a fantastic facility and a wonderful opportunity for Theo and the rest of the squad.
The boys stayed at a 4* hotel in Altrincham and this allowed them to prepare fully for the fixture on Sunday 30 April. The ISFA vs SISFA fixture was played at the J Davidson stadium, home of Altrincham FC. The fixture was a very hard fought and competitive match, but SISFA were dominant for large spells of the first half. SISFA took the lead on 38 minutes, scoring a very well taken free kick and this proved to be the winning goal.
This is a great achievement for the SISFA and also Theo, as it is the first time ever that the SISFA have beaten the ISFA in England. Theo said “It was a great experience to play with some of Scotland’s best school players as well as playing against very good opposition. I hope that my selection in this fixture will help football to progress in Merchiston.” It is a wonderful achievement for Theo and also Merchiston Football for a player to be recognised at such a high level.
