Worldwide reading of Ovid

23rd March, 2018

Academic

On Friday 23 March, boys from the II Form to V Form celebrated the end of term by taking part in a worldwide reading of Ovid’s Metamorphoses. They joined participants from throughout the world who were all reading extracts from Ovid’s epic poem in their own language.

The poem recounts various myths about people undergoing changes and the boys all gave enthusiastic accounts of the exploits of Hercules fighting the shape-shifting river god, Achelous, and overcoming the Nemean lion. The hour ended, rather fittingly, with the tale of Hercules being made a god.

It was wonderful to take part in a global event like this. The storytelling was masterful and the audience was gripped throughout.
